Instagram photo resizer

Drop in a photo and get it at an Instagram size: square, portrait, landscape, story or profile. Crop to fill or fit the whole picture on a coloured background. The photo never leaves your browser.

Don't let Instagram crop your photo for you.

How to use it

  1. Choose a photo from your device, or drop it on the box.
  2. Pick a size. "Fill" crops the overflow; "Fit" keeps the whole photo and fills the gaps with a colour.
  3. Download the result as a JPEG or PNG.

Good to know

  • Instagram's feed is 1080 pixels wide. Portrait (4:5) takes the most screen, which is why many people use it.
  • Stories and Reels are 9:16. Keep faces and text away from the top and bottom, where the app draws its own buttons.
  • "Fit" is the one to use for a photo you can't afford to crop: a screenshot, a poster or a group shot.

About the Instagram photo resizer

What size should an Instagram photo be?

1080 pixels wide is the usual target. Square is 1080 × 1080, portrait 1080 × 1350 and landscape 1080 × 566. Stories and Reels are 1080 × 1920.

Is my photo uploaded?

No. The resize happens in your browser using your device. We never see the photo.

Will resizing lower the quality?

Shrinking a large photo to 1080 pixels keeps it sharp. Making a small photo larger can't add detail, so start from the biggest original you have.

JPEG or PNG?

JPEG for photos: smaller files that Instagram handles well. PNG for graphics with text or flat colour.
