Social listening for developer relations teams

Sniffington searches the public places developers talk about tools, finds posts that name your product or link to your site or docs, and rules out namesakes and unrelated matches. Questions, bug reports, comparisons and wrong claims reach a feed and your alerts while you can still join the thread.

Why DevRel monitoring is different

Developers talk about tools in threads about something else: a Hacker News comment three levels down, a Reddit answer to a question you will never see, a post that links your docs without naming you. An alert on your name alone can miss all of it. Sniffington searches names, domains and the links inside posts.

Where the technical conversations are

Hacker News stories and the comments under them. Reddit posts and comments across every subreddit. X posts with the post they quote. Bluesky, including posts that only link to you. LinkedIn, YouTube videos and their newest comments, and news. These are the sources Sniffington searches.

Questions, bug reports and wrong claims, sorted

Each kept post gets a category: Question, Bug report, Feature request, Comparison, Misinformation and more. Filter to Question and Bug report for the threads that need an answer, and to Misinformation for claims about your product that are wrong.

Competitor and alternative threads

Keep competing tools in a Competitors group and phrases like "[tool] alternative" or "[tool] vs [tool]" in a topic group. Developers choosing a tool ask in public, and those threads arrive beside your own mentions with a Comparison or Buying intent category. Add a competitor by its website and Sniffington fills in its handles, then tags its posts complaint, praise, looking for an alternative or pricing talk.

Names that are also words

Developer tools often have short, common names. Describe your product in a line and say what it gets confused with, add anchor words for the search, and exclude terms on a keyword. Every post ruled out stays listed with the reason, so you can check the call.

A feed and alerts, not another inbox

A daily digest, or an instant message when something urgent lands, goes to Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams or email. An alert can be limited to a category, so a bug report goes to the engineering channel and a comparison goes to marketing. A spike alert pings when mentions run far above normal, such as after a release or an outage thread. Checks run on a schedule: daily on Founder, as often as every 6 hours on Portfolio and Agency.

API and MCP for technical teams

Everything in the app is in the REST API, and signed webhooks push new mentions into your own tools. Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or another agent over MCP and ask which posts about your SDK need a reply today. It can mark posts done or follow-up, and it never posts anything.

What Sniffington does not do

QuestionAnswer
Does it reply or post for me?No. It never posts, replies, likes or follows. You read the thread and answer as yourself.
Is it a community inbox or a publishing tool? No. It finds public posts. It does not manage your accounts, schedule posts or hold a shared inbox.
Does it read GitHub issues, Stack Overflow, Discord or Slack communities? No. It searches the public sources listed above. Chat servers and private communities are not searched.
Does it find every mention? No. It runs each platform's own public search for your keywords, handles and domain, so a post those searches do not return is not found.
Is it a live stream? No. Checks run on a schedule: daily on Founder, as often as every 6 hours on Portfolio and Agency.

Questions

Does it find posts that link to our docs?

On Reddit, Hacker News and Bluesky, yes: a post or story whose link goes to your domain is kept as a mention even when the text never names you. Add your docs domain as a keyword.

Which communities does it search?

Hacker News, Reddit, X, Bluesky, LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, Threads and Google News. They are the public sources Sniffington searches today.

How do I stop a common product name flooding the feed?

Describe the product in one line and say what the name gets confused with. Sniffington reads every post against that, and you can add anchor words and excluded terms on each keyword.

Can my coding agent read the feed?

Yes. The MCP server works with Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, Codex, Gemini CLI and VS Code. It can list and filter mentions and mark them done.

What does it cost?

The Free plan watches one product with no card. Founder is $19 a month for one brand with 50 keywords. Portfolio is $79 a month for 5 brands, if you cover several products.
