Boolean search generator

Boolean search means combining words with AND, OR and NOT. Fill in what must appear, what may appear and what must not, and get the same search written for Google, X, Reddit, LinkedIn and Bluesky.

AND, OR, NOT. Every platform spells them a little differently. I'll do the spelling.

How to use it

  1. Put the words that must all appear in the first box. Use commas to keep a phrase together.
  2. Add alternatives in the third box and anything to exclude in the fourth.
  3. Copy the line for the platform you're searching.

Good to know

  • Google and X take spaces for AND, a capital OR, and a minus sign for NOT. Reddit and LinkedIn want the words AND, OR and NOT in capitals, and parentheses around alternatives.
  • A phrase in quotes only matches those words in that order. Use it for brand names with more than one word.
  • To exclude noise, add the words that show up when the name means something else. It is the cheapest way to cut namesakes from a search.

About the Boolean search generator

What is a boolean search?

A search that combines terms with AND, OR and NOT, usually with quotes for exact phrases and parentheses for grouping. It lets you say "this and that, but not the other" in one line.

Why does Bluesky only get the required words?

Bluesky's search has no OR or exclusion operator, so anything beyond the required words and phrase would be ignored. We leave it out rather than give you a query that quietly does something else.

Does this send my search anywhere?

No. The queries are built in your browser. Nothing leaves the page until you paste one into a platform.

Can it watch a search and tell me about new posts?

That's what Sniffington does. It writes the right search for each platform from a brand name, reads every result and keeps the posts that are really about you.

Want this every day?

The free plan watches one brand on all ten platforms, weekly. No card.
